CONSEQUENCES

The consequences of the Battle of Mogadishu was that all US personnel were withdrawn by 1995 leaving behind a country even more shattered than before. Even though the operation was a success, the Clinton Administration became wary of deploying American troops into third world countries with severe civil wars and genocides. For example, two major incidents, Rwanda and Yugoslavia, were not intervened in by the US for fear of another incident that occurred in Mogadishu. In addition, developing countries such as Somalia begin to look severely down upon US military presence within their own countries. While Operation Restore Hope originally accomplished its charter, the “nation-building” aspect was never realized. Somalia today remains a country divided between numerous factions and warlords all vying for power.
